Unit four: Relationships

Peer pressure is being in a situation where you have to do the things other people of your age do in order to be accepted by them. The pressure to look fashionable is one of the most common. Now it's as if we all need to wear the same brand of clothes and trainers. However, surely having the confidence to wear what you choose says more about your personality that being like a clone. You mustn´t let fashion turn you into a slave.
When it comes to serious issues like drinking, smoking or drugs, peer pressure can get you into dangerous situations because you have the impression you must do what the others do, even when you don't agrre with it. The way I see it, though, is that if you don't want to do something, you needn`t sacrifice your beliefs just to fit in with your friends. If you do, maybe you`d better find yourself some new friends.
Although we all need to have the feeling that we're one of the crowd, we also ought to remember to feel good by being true to ourselves too. We're all unique so why should we hide it?
